An integrated Cancer Centre for Colchester General Hospital
Colchester Hospitals Charity (CoHoC), the Hospital’s dedicated charity launched a campaign to build an integrated Cancer Centre in 2014 with the aim of ensuring that patients receive the very best services and care, both during and post treatment, in facilities which offer comfort and dignity to them and their families. With the support of the community the charity has raised over £2.56m against its target of £3.25m.
The Cancer Centre will transform cancer care at Colchester General Hospital by providing:
• a co-located cancer treatment centre combining cancer outpatient clinics, chemotherapy and haematology, alongside the new Radiotherapy Centre, which opened in 2014.
• a spacious new chemotherapy and haematology suite will ensure patients are treated in a comfortable and peaceful environment, which offers privacy to them and their families and room to expand in the future.
• a Wellness Centre adjacent to the Cancer Centre, where patients can go to receive help and confidential advice during and after treatment from hospital staff and voluntary organisations, which offer specialist support for people facing cancer. The Wellness Centre will provide space for patient groups to meet, and offer complimentary therapies, which recent research has found to aid recovery.
